happy valentine’s day, everyone! what better way to celebrate the day of love than with cupcakes? i made a dark chocolate cupcake with a mocha buttercream frosting, and i think it’s probably the best thing i’ve ever baked! i used my usual chocolate cake recipe (the cup of coffee added at the end goes perfect with the frosting!) and the classic wilton recipe for the frosting. hope you all have a day filled with love and baked goods :)

happy birthday to me! it took me so long to decide what i wanted, but a last minute search led me to this yellow cake recipe (how could i go wrong with a title like that?!) and this frosting recipe. for the frosting, i should have gone with fresh strawberries instead of substituting seedless jam, but c’est la vie. i added the wilton violet coloring because purple is my favorite color. hope you’re all having as lovely a day as i am!

so, i know this is supposed to be a baking blog, so i technically cheated with this one! i wanted something with a rich taste and little effort, so i started mashing and rolling and drizzling to make these oreo balls. after smashing and stomping on a few sleeves of oreos (not without going through many ziploc bags to do so), i added about 8 ounces of cream cheese so they’d stick together. i stuck them in the freezer for about a half an hour, all while melting some chocolate for a drizzle. i didn’t feel like breaking out the pastry bag and tip, so i just poured the chocolate into another ziploc bag and snipped off the end when i was ready. they’re currently in the freezer, slowly being devoured by my family. enjoy!

first post on the new blog, and a simple one at that! this morning i made a delicious chocolate cake, adjusted from this recipe by ina garten, with a classic buttercream frosting, topped with pearlized sprinkles. happy sunday!
